ELK GROVE VILLAGE DOCUMENT DESTRUCTION AND ELECTRONIC RECYCLING EVENT

When: Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon

Where: James Paul Petri Public Works Facility, 450 E. Devon Avenue, Elk Grove Village, IL

There is no cost to attend, but residents must live in one of SWANCC’s local member communities (Elk Grove Village and Hoffman Estates) to participate. IDs will be checked for proof of residency. Materials from businesses, institutions or schools will not be accepted. 

To help keep the line moving, all participants are asked to follow these guidelines:
 
  • IDs will be checked to verify residency.
  • Residents will unlock/open the trunk from inside the vehicle and allow staff to unload the items.
  • Paper documents should be contained in one area in the back of vehicle in paper bags or small boxes – not in plastic bags! Boxes and bags will be returned to the resident.

About Paper: Residents can bring up to six (6) file-sized boxes or paper bags of sensitive documents containing personal information, such as medical history forms, bank statements, personal files and retired tax forms.  Paper documents will be shredded on site.

Plastic spines/covers and metal clips/binders MUST BE removed from all documents.  DO NOT bring paper in plastic bags.  DO NOT include photos, slides, negatives, books, store receipts, magazines, greeting cards or newspapers or any non-paper item.

  • Paper must be dry, clean, and loose
  • Remove metal clips, plastic sleeves, folders, and binders (small staples are okay)
  • Place paper in paper shopping bags or cardboard boxes – NO PLASTIC BAGS – please!
  • Limited to six (6) bags or boxes


FREE WEEKLY ELECTRONICS RECYCLING IN HOFFMAN ESTATES FOR SWANCC MEMBERS

***The weekly Electronics Recycling drop off in Hoffman Estates will begin Monday, April 1, 2024 and run through November 11, 2024. The drop offs are held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hoffman Estates Village Hall.***

To assist residents with collecting old electronics and to ensure environmentally safe recycling of these materials, the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) developed an Electronics Recycling Drop-off Program to collect electronics on an ongoing basis at no cost to Hoffman Estates residents and other SWANCC communities such as Elk Grove Village.  Proof of residency will be required.

Village residents can drop off electronics each Monday at the Village Hall, 1900 Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates.  Your cooperation in adhering to the times and dates is much appreciated.

Electronics will only be accepted on Mondays. Under the Illinois Environmental Protection Act, there is a limit of 7 items per household and no electronics can be accepted from municipalities, schools, businesses, or institutions.

The following items will be accepted for recycling.  Please remove electronics from plastic packaging and boxes before bringing to a SWANCC drop-off location.

FALL RECYCLING EVENT IN SCHAUMBURG

The Village of Schaumburg is hosting a Fall Recycling Event that will include electronics and paint recycling as well as document shredding!

When:  Saturday, October 7, 2023. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where:  Wintrust Field West Parking Lot (Boomers), 1999 S. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg.

Who:  Schaumburg residents only (participants will be asked to show ID).

What:  Paper shredding services will be available at no cost to residents. Two banker boxes or bags are acceptable. Document destruction will be available until the truck reaches capacity. Allowed: Paper clips and staples. Not Allowed: CDs, Plastic Bags, Spiral Notebooks, 3 Ring Binders.

CURBSIDE ELECTRONICS RECYCLING OFFERED IN SCHAUMBURG

Village of Schaumburg residents who receive curbside refuse service will be provided the opportunity to participate in a free curbside electronics recycling event the week of October 2 through October 6, 2023.

Households must register between Monday, August 7 through Friday, September 22 to participate.

HOFFMAN ESTATES ELECTRONICS RECYCLING AND SHREDDING EVENT

It’s time to clean out your old electronics, small appliances, and paper documents if you’re a resident of Hoffman Estates and Elk Grove Village. The village and the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County [SWANCC] will be holding an electronics recycling and document shredding event for SWANCC residents only.

Materials will not be accepted from businesses, schools or non-SWANCC residents.

Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Susan H. Kenley-Rupnow Public Works Center, 2305 Pembroke

Simply drive to the Public Works Center, and workers will unload the recyclables from your car!

New safety guidelines will be in place for this year’s event:

  • Residents must remain in their vehicle.
  • IDs will be checked to verify residency.
  • Residents will unlock/open the trunk from inside the vehicle and allow staff to unload the items.
  • Paper documents should be contained in one area in the back of the vehicle. Up to 6 paper bags or banker boxes are accepted. Plastic bags will not be accepted. Boxes and bags will be returned to the resident.
  • The Village recommends that you arrive early. The event will close promptly at 12:00 p.m.

MONTHLY ELECTRONIC RECYCLING DROP-OFF EVENT

Who: Wheaton Electronic Recycling Drop-Off Event
Date: Second Saturday of each month
Time: 9 a.m. to noon
Location: Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W Liberty Drive, Wheaton (near the Wheaton Police Department)

The Public is welcome to attend these events.

New Safety Protocols:

  • All items must be placed in the trunk of the vehicle prior to entering the event.
  • Volunteers can’t enter the passenger compartment of any vehicle.
  • Participants are not allowed to exit their vehicle after entering the event.
  • All textiles should be placed in a clean plastic bag and small electronics should be in a cardboard box. Cooking oils should be in a sealed container. Unbagged textiles and small electronic items will not be accepted.
  • Televisions and monitors must be paid for in cash (no change given) or prepaid through the e-Works website. A receipt for prepaid items must be displayed to staff prior to a television or monitor being accepted. Cost is $25 per TV/monitor with screen smaller than 21″ and $35 per TV/monitor with screen 21″ or larger.
  • Participants who are experiencing any respiratory illness or have ill family members are asked to stay at home.
