BUSSE LAKE SHORELINE CLEANUP!

Who:  Cook County Forest Preserve

What:  The Forest Preserve will deploy groups to clean up different sections of the Busse Reservoir shoreline.

When:  Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 9 a.m. to Noon.

Where:  Busse Boating Center.  Entrance is off Higgins Road, just east of Route 53

Are you angered or saddened when you see litter threatening the health of the plants and animals that call the Preserves home? Channel those negative emotions and do something positive! Rally your friends and family members and come out to the Busse Boating Center for our first targeted shoreline cleanup.

Litter is a serious problem, but the cleanup will be fun. Forest Preserve Staff will work to deploy groups to different sections of the Busse Reservoir shoreline. Compete with fellow volunteers to see who can collect the most trash. Prizes will be awarded for the largest team and for the heaviest bag of trash. Get photographed with your weirdest piece of litter—one person’s trash might be your “Catch of the Day”. All participants earn serious bragging rights.

Trash grabbers, gloves and bags and refreshments will be provided. Wearing rubber boots is highly encouraged.

DUPAGE RIVER SWEEP

DuPage RiverThe Conservation Foundation is conducting its 26th Annual River Sweep, a countrywide clean-up which encourages citizens to improve local waterways by removing debris and litter from a section of stream or pond.  The event is being held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 9 a.m. to Noon.

The Hanover Park Environmental Committee would like to lead a group of volunteers in cleaning a section of the West Branch of the DuPage River.  For more information or to sign up, contact the Environmental Committee Hotline at 630-823-5706.  Rain date is October 21.)

SALT CREEK CLEAN-UP

Salt CreekThe Salt Creek Watershed Network is holding a Salt Creek Clean Up on Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Volunteers are needed to help restore Salt Creek to its natural state and keep this precious natural resource clean and attractive.

Over the past 22 years, this program has cleaned up 75 cubic yards of garbage from the creek, including bicycle and car parts, construction material and other debris.  Volunteers will meet at the Elk Grove High School parking lot at 9:00 a.m.

PULLING THAT INVASIVE GARLIC MUSTARD

Garlic-Mustard_smallIf you’re interested in doing some volunteering, here’s your opportunity to get some fresh air and do something positive for the environment!

The Hoffman Estates Park District is asking for help your assistance in pulling the invasive garlic mustard at Rohrssen Park.  The park is on Rohrssen Road and the event will be held on May 9, 2015 from 9-11 a.m.

Volunteers of all ages are needed. The Parks Department will give a brief orientation about the plant and how to pull it and then the work will begin! Please bring a set of garden gloves, if you have them. RSVP to Sandy Manisco at smanisco@heparks.org or 847-781-3672.
