This free event will feature guest speaker Andrea Vollf who is a member of the Schaumburg Environmental Committee and principal of Sustainable Concepts.  She will talk about the benefits of green cleaning and how to create your own environmentally safe cleaning products at home.

What:  Going Green At Home
When:  March 5, 2014 at 6:30 p.m.

This free event will feature guest speaker, Andrea Vollf, Principal of Sustainable Concepts and member of the US Green Building Council.  She will explain easy and attainable ways to save both money and the environment by “going green” at home.  Q&A follows the program.



ANIMAL TRACKS IN YOUR BACKYARD

The Stillman Nature Center in South Barrington is sponsoring a program on the various animal tracks you might see in your backyard.  Join Susan Allman as she shows you how to recognize the different types of tracks made by winter’s active animals.   The event will be held on Sunday, January 29 at 2:00 p.m.

After an indoor introduction, explore Stillman’s trails for signs of rabbit, squirrel, deer and fox.   Remember to call (847) 428-OWLS to make reservations.

The Stillman Nature Center is located at 33 W. Penny Road in South Barrington.



ENERGY IMPACT LOANS FOR RESIDENTS OF ILLINOIS

Are you interested in controlling the energy costs in your house but don’t necessarily have the money to do it?  Look into obtaining an Energy Impact Low Interest Loan to eliminate the upfront cost and allow you to pay for the improvements over a longer period.

Loans can be used on the following types of efficiency upgrades:

  • Boiler or Furnace With Additional Items –  Water heaters, programmable thermostats, central AC or any other Energy Star appliance or equipment are eligible if done in conjunction with a boiler or furnace
  • Whole Home Improvements – Anything recommended by a certified energy assessor that results in a comprehensive savings of 15% or more

ENVIRONMENTAL FAIR AT THE SCHAUMBURG TOWNSHIP DISTRICT LIBRARY

The Library’s Green Committee invites you to an Environmental Fair from1-3:30 p.m., Saturday, April 30 in the Rasmussen Room on the second floor.  Admission is free.  Representatives from the following groups are scheduled to attend:

“Our Green Future” Panel: Earth Institute’s Brower Youth Award Winners

Who:  Co-sponsored by Harper College Campus Activities Board and Whole Foods Market

$3 Harper faculty/staff, seniors and other students w/valid ID
$5 general admission

The Earth Island Institute’s Brower Youth Award, considered North America’s top prize for bold, young “green” leaders, is awarded annually to six young people who have shown outstanding leadership on a project or campaign with positive environmental and environmental justice and social impact.  

The “Our Green Future” panel will feature three award recipients sharing their stories, followed by a Q&A session.
