UNWANTED MEDICATION DROP OFF

MedicationWhat:  Hanover Park residents can now properly dispose of prescription and over-the-counter medications, medicated ointments and shampoos, liquid medicines in original non-leaking containers, prescription and over-the-counter inhalers, and glass thermometers containing mercury.

  • Pills and liquid medication bottles should be placed in zipper top plastic bags.
  • Medications may be disposed of in their original containers, but personal prescription information should be removed from containers.
  • Labels on medications are not required.
  • The RxBox Program does not accept sharps.When:  24 hours a days, seven days a week.

    Where:  The RxBox, is located in the Hanover Park Police Department’s front lobby at 2011 W. Lake Street in Hanover Park.

    Who:  Medications may only be brought in by residents.

NATIONAL PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE-BACK DAY

Now is the time to consider recycling your prescription and over the counter medication.  The Hoffman Estates and Elk Grove Village Police Departments are partnering with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for a drug disposal event:

Saturday, April 30
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ONLY

(The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.)

The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Drugs for disposal do not need to be marked or in original packaging.

*In addition to the annual take-back program, prescription drugs can be dropped off throughout the year at the Fire Administration counter in the lower level of the Elk Grove Village Hall, 901 Wellington Ave., 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.



PRESCRIPTION DRUGS AND SHARPS DROP OFF IN HOFFMAN ESTATES

Drug DisposalWhat:  The Hoffman Estates Department of Health and Human Services accepts outdated or unused non-controlled substance medications and sharps (syringes, needles and lancets.)  Used sharps should be contained in a biohazard container available to residents at no cost from the Department of Health and Human Services. Or they may be encapsulated inside a rigid plastic laundry detergent bottle with a screw-top lid.

When:  The First Wednesday of each month from 10-2.

Where:  Health and Human Services entrance at the south side of the Hoffman Estates Village Hall, 1900 Hassell Road.

Who:  For Hoffman Estates residents only.

The DEA, in conjunction with local and state law enforcement entitites, will be sponsoring a drop-off event on:

*It is okay to combine unlabeled pills in a plastic bag if you would like to recycle the containers.

The Police Department of Hoffman Estates is partnering with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for a drug disposal event:

Unfortunately, no liquids or needles will be accepted at this event.

Residents will be able to properly and safely dispose of accumulated, unwanted and unused prescription pills, including controlled substances, which have not been previously accepted by the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC).
