The Earth Island Institute’s Brower Youth Award, considered North America’s top prize for bold, young “green” leaders, is awarded annually to six young people who have shown outstanding leadership on a project or campaign with positive environmental and environmental justice and social impact.  

The “Our Green Future” panel will feature three award recipients sharing their stories, followed by a Q&A session.

EARTH HOUR COMES TO SCHAUMBURG TOWNSHIP!

Get your house or business ready for Earth Hour on Saturday, March 26 2011.   From 8:30 to 9:30 local time, you have the ability to join with millions of people around the world and make a difference.  Simply turn the lights out in your home and business for one hour as a symbolic way to highlight the call for climate change.    

Earth Hour 2010 became the biggest Earth Hour ever. A record 128 countries and territories joined the global display of climate action. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Pacific to Europe and Africa to the Americas switched off. People across the world from all walks of life turned off their lights and came together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.

Where:  IKEA Parking Lot, 1800 McConnor Parkway, Schaumburg
What:  Computer equipment that includes desktops, laptops, monitors, cables, keyboards, mice; scanners; fax machines; zip drives; PDAs; televisions; DVD/VHS players; cell phones; MP3 players and video game consoles.  Any other items are excluded.

RECYCLE YOUR CFL BULBS HERE TOO!

ComEd is partnering with The Home Depot and select Ace Hardware and True Value stores to properly recycle your old CFL bulbs at no charge

These bulbs contain a small amount of mercury and should not be placed in the trash.   Due to the efforts of the stores mentioned above, more than 60,000 CFLs were recycled in 2010.

Take a trip to the Geneva Green Market at their winter location at 11 N. 5th St. in Geneva, IL.  They are open Saturdays from 9-1 through May 21, 2011.

You will find assorted vegetables, breads, cheeses, eggs, local honey, popcorn, free range meats as well as grower-produced jams, jellies, salsa’s, sauces & other goodies.  Makes your mouth water, doesn’t it?
