The Habitat for Humanity ReStore accepts certain types of new and gently used building supplies.  A listing of materials they are currently accepting is here.   Examples are cabinets, plumbing fixtures and supplies, new windows, lumber, new carpet, flooring, appliances and furniture.

Materials can be dropped off at the ReStore during store hours only.  
Wednesday – Friday, 9-6.  Saturday 9-4.

THE GREEN CORNER–BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE VILLAGE OF SCHAUMBURG!

The village of Schaumburg has created a new section of their website called The Green Corner.  Here you will find a variety of ways to be even more green! 

Some of their information includes:  CFL bulb and battery dropoff, places in the village to recycle your electronics, hazardous waste dropoff sites and information on the upcoming annual Recycling Event.

CAN YOU HELP IN HOFFMAN ESTATES?

 hoffman-estates-creek1The Hoffman Estates Environmental Commission is sponsoring the 12th annual Hoffman Estates Village Improvement Day on Saturday, April 24, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The village has identified an array of open spaces, parks and creek lines that need attention.  Environmental Commission members will be on hand to coordinate the work and assist the volunteers.  Work will be limited to trash pickup and the village will provide the bags. 

The event will kick off at the Public Works Center at 2305 Pembroke Ave. at 9:00 a.m.  Free T-shirts will be distributed to those helping while supplies last.  All minors must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate.

BRING YOUR QUESTIONS TO A MASTER GARDENER

 DuPage County Master Gardeners will be available to answer your gardening questions. Information on annual and perennial flowers, trees, lawn care and other horticulture issues will also be available. Master Gardeners are a group of volunteers trained by University of Ilinois Extension educators to provide a network of gardening and horticulture programs to educate the public. All information provided is based on research from the University of Illinois.



IT’S RAINING RAIN BARRELS!

As part of the National Library Week festivities and our effort to Go Green, Save Green, the Schaumburg Township District Library is sponsoring a Rain Barrel drawing extravaganza!

Ten rain barrels have been beautifully  painted with weather-resistant materials and are on display in the lobby of the Central Library.  The following groups generously stepped up to do the decorating:

  • Conant High School Art Club
  • Lauren Ramsey and Brianna Saviano from the Schaumburg High School Art Department
  •  Teen Corps
  • STDL Youth Services Department program participants
  • Hoffman Estates Art League
  • Schaumburg Park District
  • Schaumburg Garden Club
  • Prairie Woods Audubon
  • STDL Reference Department
  • STDL Extension Services Department

Tickets for the rain barrel drawing may be obtained from the Check-in Desk from Sunday, April 11 to Saturday, April 17. There is a limit of 5 per person with the suggested donation being $1 per ticket.  Proceeds will go to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry. 

Stop by, take a look and enter the drawing for the rain barrel that would look best under your downspout!



HOW GREEN DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW IN HOFFMAN ESTATES?

Beginning April 5, the Village of Hoffman Estates will be “renting” plots in the community gardens. Residents can rent a garden plot for $25 per plot, as well as a $5 deposit for a water key.  The $5 deposit is refunded by mail or in person when the loaned key is returned at the end of the season.  To reserve a garden plot, call Myrtle in the Public Works Department at 847-490-6800.  Plots will be reserved on a first come, first serve basis.
