On Tuesday evening, September 28, 2010 the Village of Schaumburg awarded the Schaumburg Township District Library the first Al Larson Environmental Award given to non-residences!
This new, quarterly award was given to the library for the wide range of sustainable actions we practice.  The following activities were specifically mentioned green efforts:
–Energy audit and subsequential energy efficient retrofits
–New, energy-efficient computers and the promotion of duplex printing
–Document shredding event
–Collection of batteries, eyeglasses, nail polish, cell phones, shoes and other items
–Our promotion and outreach through educational programs, our e-newsletter and green blog
This award was achieved through alterations and modifications by the library staff, support from the administration and board and, most of all, the many contributions by the public to all of our recycling/collection/environment events!  It was truly a joint effort.  A big thanks to everyone!
