What: Document Destruction and Electronic Recycling Event

When: Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon
Where: James Paul Petri Public Works Facility, 450 E. Devon Avenue, Elk Grove Village, IL
There is no cost to attend, but residents must live in one of SWANCC’s local member communities (Elk Grove Village and Hoffman Estates) to participate. IDs will be checked for proof of residency. Materials from businesses, institutions or schools will not be accepted.
- IDs will be checked to verify residency.
- Residents will unlock/open the trunk from inside the vehicle and allow staff to unload the items.
- Paper documents should be contained in one area in the back of vehicle in paper bags or small boxes – not in plastic bags! Boxes and bags will be returned to the resident.
About Paper: Residents can bring up to six (6) file-sized boxes or paper bags of sensitive documents containing personal information, such as medical history forms, bank statements, personal files and retired tax forms. Paper documents will be shredded on site.
Plastic spines/covers and metal clips/binders MUST BE removed from all documents. DO NOT bring paper in plastic bags. DO NOT include photos, slides, negatives, books, store receipts, magazines, greeting cards or newspapers or any non-paper item.

How to prepare for a Document Destruction event:
- Paper must be dry, clean, and loose
- Remove metal clips, plastic sleeves, folders, and binders (small staples are okay)
- Place paper in paper shopping bags or cardboard boxes – NO PLASTIC BAGS – please!
- Limited to six (6) bags or boxes
What: Paint and Motor Oil Recycling Event
Who: Elk Grove Village residents only. IDs will be checked.
Where: Petri Public Works Facility, 450 E. Devon Avenue, Elk Grove Village
When: Saturday, May 4, 2024. 9-12 Noon.
The following items will be collected at this event:
- Motor Oil
- Anti-Freeze
- Paints or Stains (Latex, Acrylic, Water-based and Oil-based) Restrictions are listed below.
• Must be in labeled, non-leaking cans or containers that are 5 gallons or less.
• Dried up paint will not be accepted, but can be disposed of in your curbside waste bins.
If you do not see an item listed above, it will not be accepted at this event. Items such as adhesives, aerosol cans, cleaning products, pesticides, roofing compounds, sealers/sealants, solvents, and spray paint are household hazardous waste (HHW) items, and must be disposed of at an HHW facility.
***The weekly Electronics Recycling drop off in Hoffman Estates will begin Monday, April 1, 2024 and run through November 11, 2024. The drop offs are held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hoffman Estates Village Hall.***
To assist residents with collecting old electronics and to ensure environmentally safe recycling of these materials, the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) developed an Electronics Recycling Drop-off Program to collect electronics on an ongoing basis at no cost to Hoffman Estates residents and other SWANCC communities such as Elk Grove Village. Proof of residency will be required.
Village residents can drop off electronics each Monday at the Village Hall, 1900 Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates. Your cooperation in adhering to the times and dates is much appreciated.
Electronics will only be accepted on Mondays. Under the Illinois Environmental Protection Act, there is a limit of 7 items per household and no electronics can be accepted from municipalities, schools, businesses, or institutions.
The following items will be accepted for recycling. Please remove electronics from plastic packaging and boxes before bringing to a SWANCC drop-off location.

Beginning Monday, April 1, 2024 the Village of Hoffman Estates will be reserving plots in the community gardens. Residents can rent a garden plot for $25. There are two garden plot locations: north at Mumford Drive and Westbury Drive, or south at Volid Drive and Vista Lane.
Reservations are made on a first come, first served basis by calling Public Works at 847-490-6800 or email at publicworks@hoffmanestates.org beginning at 8:30 A.M. No calls or emails will be accepted before that time.
Calls and messages received after 8:30 a.m. and left on voicemail or email will be recorded with the date and time called in.
A garden plot request must include:
- Full name
- Address including zip code
- Phone number
- Email address
- Garden location (north or south) and plot number preference (if known)
When requesting a plot by voicemail or email, be sure to include all of the above information. Plot assignments will be on a first come, first serve basis. Residents will be able to reserve one plot only. Requests for additional garden plots will be put on a waiting list, and assigned only if space remains available after the initial sign-up. Plot assignment confirmations will be emailed or mailed to residents the following week.

It’s time to start thinking about the farm fresh fruits, produce, flowers, baked goods, meat and cheese that are some of the goodies you can find at the Schaumburg Farmers’ Market.
You’ll find locally grown fruits and vegetables, mushrooms, meats, flowers, plants, and gourmet cheeses sold by the farmers who produce them. The market also features decadent pastries, baked goods, olives, preserves, honey, salsa, hot sauces and fresh brewed tea and coffee. This family-friendly event offers freshly squeezed lemonade, kettle corn, snow cones, crepes, tacos, and veggie burgers made on site. Pets, bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and roller skates are prohibited.
The Market is open every Friday from June 7 to October 25, 2024, 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Market is located at the Trickster Cultural Center in the Town Square Shopping Center at 190 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg.
