What: Document Destruction and Electronic Recycling Event

Who: Elk Grove Village

When: Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon

Where: James Paul Petri Public Works Facility, 450 E. Devon Avenue, Elk Grove Village, IL

There is no cost to attend, but residents must live in one of SWANCC’s local member communities (Elk Grove Village and Hoffman Estates) to participate. IDs will be checked for proof of residency. Materials from businesses, institutions or schools will not be accepted. 

To help keep the line moving, all participants are asked to follow these guidelines:
 
  • IDs will be checked to verify residency.
  • Residents will unlock/open the trunk from inside the vehicle and allow staff to unload the items.
  • Paper documents should be contained in one area in the back of vehicle in paper bags or small boxes – not in plastic bags! Boxes and bags will be returned to the resident.

About Paper: Residents can bring up to six (6) file-sized boxes or paper bags of sensitive documents containing personal information, such as medical history forms, bank statements, personal files and retired tax forms.  Paper documents will be shredded on site.

Plastic spines/covers and metal clips/binders MUST BE removed from all documents.  DO NOT bring paper in plastic bags.  DO NOT include photos, slides, negatives, books, store receipts, magazines, greeting cards or newspapers or any non-paper item.

How to prepare for a Document Destruction event:

  • Paper must be dry, clean, and loose
  • Remove metal clips, plastic sleeves, folders, and binders (small staples are okay)
  • Place paper in paper shopping bags or cardboard boxes – NO PLASTIC BAGS – please!
  • Limited to six (6) bags or boxes
