I’m The Come to the Green Side email lists a document shredding / electronics recycling event on August 13 in Hoffman Estates. It identifies the residents of Schaumburg township, Elk Grove Village and Hoffman Estates are welcome to participate. However, the village of Schaumburg referred me to Hoffman and Hoffman Estates told me that Schaumburg is not eligible to participate.

I do have shredding and electronics and had planned to drop off at this event. However, participation rules are quite unclear and contradictory. Could you please help clarify. The person at the library welcome desk was unsure.

Hello Ilene,

The August 15 event is ONLY for the residents of Hoffman Estates and Elk Grove Village.

(Schaumburg Township is different from the Village of Schaumburg. The Township is a larger area that INCLUDES parts of Schaumburg, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Hanover Park, Streamwood, Roselle and Rolling Meadows.)

Hoffman Estates and Elk Grove Village are the only villages in Schaumburg Township that belong to the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) who is co-sponsoring the event. Proof of residency will be checked at the event.

If you are a resident of the Village of Schaumburg you will be able to take advantage of the October 1 event at Schaumburg Township on Illinois Boulevard.

I hope this clears up the matter for you.
