The Village of Schaumburg, School District 54, the Schaumburg Township District Library and the Schaumburg Township District Library are sponsoring a massive recycling/shredding event to be held Saturday, April 21 from 10:00 to 3:00 at School District  54 offices, 524 E. Electronic recycling is being provided by Creative Recycling Systems.

Acceptable items  for recycling include:  personal computers (PCs), laptops, monitors, keyboards, electronic mice, hard drives, CD ROM/Zip/Tape drives, modems, cords and cables (power, USB, etc.), televisions, VCRs, DVD players, CD players, radios, stereos, tape players, telephones, cell phones, cameras (film, magnetic tape, digital), palm organizers, gaming consoles,  joysticks/game controls, scanners/fax machines, pagers, paper shredders and answering machines, toner/ink cartridges, household/rechargeable batteries and small household appliances including microwaves.

Unacceptable  items  include:  Large appliances, air conditioners, water heaters, refrigerators, ovens, garbage disposals, fire extinguishers, household hazardous waste and regular garbage.

Document shredding is limited to two copy boxes per resident for certified document destruction and is sponsored by DOCU-SHRED of Westmont.  Their phone number is 630-986-5411.

Miscellaneous Items:  Automotive batteries, modest amounts of motor oil and antifreeze,  holiday light strands, extension cords, phone wiring, coaxial cable, CFL light bulbs, eyeglasses, bicycles, wheelchairs, sewing machines and American flags.

Miscellaneous items are sponsored by:  Exide Technologies, Elgin Recycling Inc., Illinois Recovery Group Inc., Working Bikes Cooperative, Republic Services/ARC Disposal, TGA Wireless Recycling, Lions Club and Ellsworth Meineke American Legion Post #1983.
