Hi Andy,

I've looked into your question and, because this is a business concern, it makes it more difficult to find an appropriate location to recycle your items. That being said, I spoke to a gentleman at the IL Bureau of Energy and Recycling who gave me the following recommendations:
1. Consider using and/or posting your request on the IL EPAs Industrial Material Exchange. http://www.epa.state.il.us/land/imes/ You can use the IMES directory to find companies that are wanting materials such as yours. You can also create your own post for this list. In addition, take a look at the New Listings. You may find something more recent there.
2. The Illinois Recycling Association runs the same thing. It just isn't as well used. http://illinoisrecyclesdirectory.org/IRecycle/ You simply need to register with the site to post your items.
3. It was also suggested that your company may want to work with the manufacturers and, either get them to package their products with more easily recyclable materias or require the company to take the packaging materials back.
4. As far as the packing peanuts go, you may also want to check the Peanut Hotline of the Plastic Loosefill Council. You will be able to find mailing places in your area that would accept the peanuts. Or, you can call them at 800-828-2214. By calling them, their phone system "reads" your location and tells you which mailing places are closest to you.

I hope some of this information helps you out. Thank you for stopping by "Come to the Green Side!"

I am a Retail tech and I recieve hundreds of boxes filled with machines that are packed with peanuts and other assorted styro-foam packing materials. I have been trying to get our company to figure out a way to recycle styro-foam for about a year now. When I ran across your web site I was curious if there might be a way you might be able to help us out or possibly lead us in another direction that would be able to help. The only problem is we are in Springfield IL, so that is a distance that might only want to be driven once a month or less. Please respond with any ideas you might have so I can pass them on to my supervisors. thanks, Andy R. Suter

Love your blog!! Good ideas and information. A great example of what libraries can do to support sustainability, be an active part of their community, and educate their users at the same time.

I agree that it's regretful that the CloudBlue could not take televisions but, if you're looking for a place to drop off a TV, check out the earlier posting about the dropoff at the Hanover Park Public Work's garage. It is nice and close and might just work for you. Here is the info:

Who: Hanover Park Public Works Facility in conjunction with DuPage County and SIMS Recycling Solutions
When: Beginning June 2, Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M to 4:00 P.M.
Where: Hanover Park Public Works Facility
2121 W. Lake Street, Hanover Park
What: Computers, CPUs, monitors, keyboards, televisions, radios, microwaves, laptops, printers, cell phones, UPS systems, PDU’s, fax machines, phones, DVD players, VCR’s and stereo equipment. Items containing liquids or refrigerants will not be accepted. Businesses may not participate.

I thought the same thing about the TV's. I have brought stuff to the last three events put on by the Village. But they didnt accept TV's last time either. I thought they would this time since the new digital TV thing in 2009. I asked the company (CloudBlue) who does the recycling and they said that because the event is free they can not accept TV's. They told me that the cost is to high to properly recycle them and the Village was not willing to pay for them to be recycled.

Hi There!
We are excited to hear someone else is also having an eCycling event too! Ours is April 18 in Tonasket at the Community Cultural Center - 411 Western.
Just curious about the typewriters, cameras and alarm clocks - would you care to share your resource with us for where you will be recycling these items. We have a local business that fixes electronics we are working with so we can also accept these items. But since we are concerned we may overwhelm them with electronic items, we are search for other options as well for eCycling them as the State program does not currently go past TVs and computers.
Thanks for the opportunity to connect with you. We look forward to hearing about your success and any resources you can share with us.
The Recycling Chick ;>
Every day is a good day to be Green!
