In April, 500,000 CFL bulbs were made available to members of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus through a grant from the Northern Illinois Energy Project (NIEP) and the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance. NIEP is a partnership between the Citizens Utility Board, City of Chicago, and Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.
As a result, the village has 18,000 free CFL bulbs to distribute while supplies last. Please bring proof of residency to one of the following locations to pick up your four bulbs.

On September 17, 2008 Senate Bill 2313, sponsored by State Sen. Susan Garret, D-29th, of Lake Forest, was signed into law which establishes statewide goals for the recycling and reuse of electronic devices. It also bans the disposal of those items in landfills starting on January 1 2012!
The program establishes a special fund paid for by manufacturers that will be used to pay for electronic collections throughout the state. Some agencies, including the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) and the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALC) already have established electronic waste collections but the additional funding will allow for more collections to take place in locations that are convenient for the public.
